The beginning of... tile.

The new fireplace surround causes me to use more tile. The wood legs are smaller.

borrowed the bullnose from the downstairs bathroom project and pressed it into service. Screws provide support where future tiles will go.

backer board is Denshield. Mastic is OmniGrip. Stuff can take as long as two days to fully cure.

Staining...

I had not successfully stained before. I started out happy how light the stain was, covered half the fireplace, used up the entire can, then wondered what the brown gunk was on the bottom.

Armed with a fresh can and stirring sticks, I diluted 2:1 with mineral spirits and went to town.

Funny how this is the color I usually aim for after the wood has set under the california sun for a week.

Although, this method required releasing about two pints of mineral spirits into the air.

Eh, no comment.

Today... I shall blog.

But, since I am at work, this blog will be very..very..short.

Phone is still sitting on the kitchen counter. So, I'm screwed today.
